1/2 Size violin Strad copy
Inside the violin is Antonio Stradivarius Cremonenfis, Ficiebat Anno 17". There is a mark of a circle with a plus sign at the top and an A and an S all within the circle. This is described as a "Strad copy" violin made in a cottage factory before the 20th century. It also has a stamp on the scroll "Orme Conservatory Violin". I can find nothing that helps identify what this means as far as the origin of the violin.
The violin is made of nice maple and spruce. It and the other half size are very similar that way. The major difference is that this one may be a little older and it is in better condition with fewer marks and scratches. A couple of other differences are that the F holes are cut a little better in this one and it has a new set of strings.
The violin has been professionally reconditioned and appraised. It has all new strings, bridge, pegs and chin rest. It has been cleaned and polished and is in excellent condition, ready to play. It should require no maintenance or further work. It has been brought back to as close to the way it was made as possible.
For a young student it is a high quality instrument to learn on. It has a nice sound so when your young student moves on to the next level, this violin should retain its value to be used as equity when moving up to the next level of violin. If you choose to keep it as a collectible, it should also increase in value as an antique.
