Very Old German Violin - For Sale

Submitted by admin on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 06:08.

This is one of the most in tact of the violins in this collection.  The back has only the original finish on it.  It was just cleaned and polished properly to bring it back to what you see in the pictures.  The violin is very old and dates to the end of the 19th century and undoubtedly earlier.  The wood and building technique indicates that it again is a German made violin.

It has many new parts including the bridge, sound post, tuning pegs, chin rest, tail piece and end piece.  It also has a new ebony fingerboard, nut and a new set of Dominant strings.  They were installed since the pics were taken.

In his appraisal, Geza recognized that this is a "Lovely Violin".  By this he is referring to the sound and how it is made.   It is just that simple.  It is the age, the techniques used in making this instrument and the fact that it is close to the original condition that contribute to this violin being so valuable.  This all shows up in the sound.  When you play this violins, your knees will buckle when you hear the sound.
