Strad copy 1716

Submitted by admin on Thu, 02/14/2008 - 01:17.

Inside of this violin there is a label that reads ANTONIUS STRadvarius.  Below this there is a portion that is scratched off that ends with Anno 1716.

The violin is a very nicely made Strad copy made by some luthiery in Germany at the turn of the century.  What makes this violin worth more than some of the other Strad copies in the collection is that it is made well.  It is of nice wood and is in very good shape with no cracks.  The two piece back is a nice tight maple grain and the top is a very nice spruce grain.

Our luthier just had to glue some seams, shave the fingerboard to make it smooth, make a new nut, cut the bridge to proper size and set up the sound post which had been removed for air travel.  Then he spent many hours touching it up, setting it up and polishing it to the sheen that you see in the pictures. Note the bit of decore on the pegs, the tailpiece and the tail post. They are a nice cosmetic touch to a very nice violin

This one is hard to describe the sound. The best I can describe is that the tone quality is in between the violins valued just under $2000 and the ones valued in the low $3000 category.

If you are interested in purchasing a violin you can send me a message using the contact us form. I prefer to use Paypal for the transaction. Paypal is capable of accepting all major credit cards.
